POCATELLO, ID, UNITED STATES, August 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), the leading national nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering beds to children in need, today announced the 8th Annual Bunks Across America (BAA), taking place September 5-12, 2026. Throughout the week, SHP chapters across the country will host coordinated bed builds and volunteer events that will help more children have safe, comfortable beds of their own.

Last year’s Bunks Across America resulted in 10,075 beds built by 12,955 volunteers from 209 SHP chapters. This year’s initiative aims to expand that impact by engaging more than 250 SHP chapters and 15,000 volunteers to build more than 12,000 beds.

"BAA 2025 was a beautiful day — over 200 volunteers came together to build frames and headboards for 94 beds, and it wasn't a one-man job,” said Steven Wisenburg, chapter co-president, Sleep in Heavenly Peace-GA, Etowah Valley. “It's the collaborative effort of selfless people and groups who heard kids needed beds and jumped right in.”

Nearly 100,000 beds are still needed for children currently sleeping on floors, couches, or other inadequate sleeping arrangements. Since its founding, SHP has built more than 400,000 beds, but child bedlessness continues in communities across the country.

“Bunks Across America gives our chapters the opportunity to welcome new volunteers, strengthen local partnerships, and reach more families,” said Jordan Allen, CEO and Executive Director of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. “The support we receive during Bunks Across America helps our chapters continue serving children and families throughout the year.”

Following each local bed build event, SHP volunteer delivery teams deliver, assemble, and install each bed, complete with a new mattress, pillow, and bedding, to families who’ve applied or been referred for beds for their child(ren).

Community members can volunteer with their local SHP chapter or make a donation to support the organization’s mission. Families, caregivers, and case workers can apply for beds for children ages 3-17 at shpbeds.org/apply. To volunteer, donate, or find a local chapter, visit shpbeds.org.
