Putin’s economic aide wants to sue Washington Post for misquoting him

(MENAFN) Kirill Dmitriev, an economic adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced he is suing the Washington Post, alleging the newspaper misquoted him for a second time in just two weeks.

Dmitriev previously criticized the outlet for “truth distortion” after it treated a reposted message from another Telegram channel as his own statement in an October 18 article. The Post later issued a correction, acknowledging the “incorrectly attributed” comment.

On Tuesday, Dmitriev wrote on X:
“The fake Washington Post already corrected quotes falsely attributed to me by Moscow bureau chief Robyn Dixon just two weeks ago. Yet sloppy or biased Ms. Dixon at it again – misquoting me in yesterday’s piece.”

He did not link to the article or specify which remarks were distorted but demanded a correction, an apology, and that the newspaper “finally learn the lesson.”

Several hours later, Dmitriev added that the article had still not been corrected and said:
“We will file a court petition tomorrow. We gave them sufficient time to correct – still not corrected.”

Dixon’s Monday article described Dmitriev’s recent visit to the US following the cancellation of a Budapest summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump. She reported that Dmitriev claimed sanctions on Russia would not damage its economy, only raise US fuel prices, rejected accusations of Russian attacks on civilians in Ukraine, and asserted that a diplomatic solution to the war was “reasonably close.”
